Giana and I walked to the elevator and pushed our way inside quickly before it descended to the ground floor because five other people were already in it.
“Good afternoon Giana?” Sam, who was at the far corner and who had been eying us since we entered here, greeted me, but I did not bother. I gave him a deaf ear. He had a thing about making me mad. He would always do that to irritate me.
“Sam? Do you see Giana alone? Can't you see our boss's beautiful secretary?” Another voice interjected.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes at them. 'Seriously, Is there any need to add that beautiful thing? This man knows how to piss someone' I clenched my hand into a fist with anger and embarrassment that I thought Giana could feel the tension.
“Hahaha! Don't you know? Sam was rejected by our cute secretary and that is why he is trying his best to frustrate her” Bony, who was Sam's friend, chimed in.
All this while, I was gazing at the floor as I gritted my teeth in anger. I hated this.
How I wished I knew before I jumped in the elevator that these playboys of the company were inside as well.
“Hay? Please stop. Arabella is my friend, and you can't talk the way you want in front of her!” Giana exclaimed in my defence, causing all five guys in the elevator to laugh hard in an annoying tone.
“Wow! She is your friend, and she is the reason you were not appointed as the secretary? Hahaha! That's hilarious!” James did not allow me to feel any better before he also tried to anger Giana. This was also their behaviour, trying in all manners to cause a fight between me and Giana. They hated our friendship.
By that statement, I tightened my grip on Giana's hand so that I could reassure her that all these people were jealous of us.
“Haha! And who told you that she is the reason I did not qualify to be our boss' assistant? You must be dreaming,” Giana did not get convinced and then gazed in my direction beside her.
“Arabella, let's go and don't worry about their words because they will never be able to separate us” She then continued as she gazed at me with a serious face, and we got out of the elevator. I couldn't be happier. I didn't know whether she said this to reassure me or spite those scumbags, but I still felt warm and fuzzy in my heart.
"Giana” I called to her as we sat at our usual place, away from other employees who liked to gossip at the company restaurant.
“Yes?” She answered back with a question, but I could sense that she was not alright.
Giana was a hot-tempered girl, and I was sure those words in the elevator got into her. She was just pretending to be okay, putting on a facade before me. I had to set things right between the two of us because she was the only friend I had in this company and I would not afford to lose her.
“Are you okay?” I asked with concern in my voice.
“Of course I am. Why are you asking?” She answered with a question.
“Well, you see what those men said in the ele…”
“Forget about that. They are just jealous and angry because they have tried to get their way with you, but they have failed and that is why they are bitter” She cut me off with a smile as she covered my hands with hers on the table. Her words got me. I was astounded. How did she know that those men were after me? I was very much sure that I breathed nothing about that to her.
“You are shocked that I know? Haha! I have my ways” She stopped laughing and then continued with seriousness on her face,
“You know what Arabella, I am your friend, and you don't have to keep anything from me. I promise to always have your back” it sounded more like a promise, a promise to always be there for me. Her words brew an emotional storm in my heart. I got up from my chair and walked to her side, then embraced her into a hug. A hug to assure her that I believed her words.
“Thank you so much Giana” I murmured between the hug.
Giana was the best thing that happened to me since I came here.
“Enough of your emotional hugs. We are here to eat, not hug!” A voice came behind my back, causing me to pull away from the hug as we turned to face the unwanted intruder.
“What is wrong with you, Sam? Why can't you leave us alone?” Giana was already angry as she got up and lashed at Sam, whose face was plastered with an evil smirk. How I wished I could wipe that smirk off his face with my fist. The man was holding a plate of food in his hand. He liked causing necessary fights.
“Stop now. I am not here to cause fights, but to make peace with the beautiful ladies of Lezat company” His smirk widened as if he were celebrating all of this.
“What is wrong with you?” Unable to stand it anymore, I decided to intervene.
I knew this was what he wanted. His grin widened at my voice.
“Such a sweet voice you have there, beautiful” He commented, causing me to bite my lower lip to suppress the anger building up. If this continued, I knew I would soon blast and explode with fury.
“But why don't you want me? You know I love you so much and am ready to marry y…”
“Just shut your filthy mouth and get the hell out of here, Sam.” Giana lashed at him because she already knew that I hated fights.
“Or the rumors are true?” Sam ignored Giana's words and continued with his blabbering, causing me to sweat as I gazed at the ground while trying hard not to seem oblivious.
But how did he know?
